The Flag Football program in Hardin, Montana
Submitted by Walter Egged

A little bit of history about the flag football program in Hardin, Montana. We started as an AAU program in 1996 and just ran a program here in Hardin. We would run at about 100 youth and ran a program for 3rd thru 6th grades, as there is tackle football programs for youth above those grades.

In 1997 we conducted the first Montana Assoication Flag Football Championships here in Hardin. We had 4 - 3rd. & 4th. grade teams and 3 - 5th. & 6th. grade teams.

The next year the tournament was moved to Colstrip, Montana, and we had a total of 12 team in both age groups. The next year we went to Miles City, Montana, and also had 12 teams. This year in 2001 at the Association meet they had 17 teams and they had to start in Friday evening under the lights.

We have both girls and boys playing. There are also a lot of Native Americans taking part from Hardin and Crow Agency, Montana. The Boys and Girls Clubs have put in teams.

This year we have about 440 youth playing flag football under the Montana AAU Assoication.
